Refelction 3
This pop culture topic is about the music. During studying this topic, I was very interested and expected about the music. At first, I read about the “I hate world music” by David Byrne. He claimed that western pop music is like the fast foods because he thought that western pop music is only for the business these days. There are a lot of music that is various and creative in the world. The music should come to understanding the each other so it can lead to develop the each nation’s music. Also, I learned the history of the music through “Same Old Song” by Lorraine Ali. She talked about the today’s music. She thinks that today’s music is vacuous. The today’s music is the results about accumulating the shock moment. The music targeted the kids to collapse their boundaries, after generation to generation, the expression level increased gradually to get attention. Thus, people accepted the music that expressed about sex and violence without the rejection.
Moreover, I prepared two presentations about the genre and the song that I choose. I studied about the Glam Rock. I liked the rock genre, so it was very good for me to study this genre. I learned the process of the developing rock genre through this chance and could find the singer who influences the Glam, Punk, and Grunge Rock. He was a David Bowie. I was very impressed about him because he faced the rock’s basic concept: resistance. It leaded the rock’s development. Second presentation was about the song analysis. I chose the Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, for I had an episode about this song. When I was kid, I watched the music video of this song. It was very scary for me to watch the music video. And then I did not like the Bohemian Rhapsody at that time. When I listened to this song again, I wanted to prepare this song. The most interesting in this song is the composition. This song mixed genre with ballad, hard rock, and opera. I was surprised that this song showed in 1970s.
Also, I watched the music videos Madonna and Lady GaGa. What I surprised about the Madonna was that she has made new concept each her new albums. She never selects the concept that she was already done again. Lady GaGa’s music video was fun to me even though this music video was obscene. The reason that I did not feel obscene the Lady GaGa’s video well is that the music video was very colorful and showed retro style.
In addition, I learned the history of the Hip-Hop. The Hip-Hop came from Jamaica that offered rhythm and Africa that provided the oral tradition that developed the rap. Hip-Hop was developed Bronx New York in 1970s. It mixed reggae, disco, and emceeing that expressed rhymes. The Hip-Hop is not the simply music genre, but it is the culture that has black people’s soul and legacy. For this reason, they have expressed their opinion about from their own life story to political opinion.
Finally, I liked National Public Radio because I could not have some information about the pop music these days. Through the NPR, I can listen to the music that I want and get the new songs in the NPR. It will be helpful for me to find the songs. This is my bumper sticker: My friend the Music.

He played the guitar with his band.
An explanation of why you chose this event
I watched guitar duo's perfomence. I was intersted in playing guitar, so I was concern about the perfomence. After that, I went to the second floor and see various the music instruments. I felt that some instruments was familiar with me, the other instruments was unfamiliar with me. A person who introduced these the instruments played the traditional Chinese instrument. It was exciting because I watched the instrument in the movie.
Finally, I saw the performence of the Brazil's guitarest. He played the
Brazil's music like smaba and salsa.

Pedro Moraes
Considered one of the most important composers and singers in the new Brazilian Popular Music scenario, Pedro Moraes´ career officially began 10 years ago with an unforseen episode of international acknowledgement. Mexican rising jazz star Magos Herrera, deeply influenced by brazilian classics, brought to wide audiences in her country two songs by Pedro, which led him to a short and successfull tour to Mexico City and New York. Upon returning to Brazil, Pedro became one of the leaders of a generation that´s been breaking grounds in brazilian songwriting, organizing and taking part in several collective projects, such as the “Brotherhood of Free Music”.
Never losing sight of his opus as a composer, Pedro started, in 2003, a very successful parallel career as a samba interpreter, springing from the traditional bohemian neighborhood of Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, to nation-wide touring, mostly with the ensemble “É com esse que eu vou”, with whom he recorded the acclaimed album “Samba do Baú” (the “Treasure-Chest Samba”), dedicated to previously unreleased songs by the greatest masters in the history of this most brazilian genre (Paulinho da Viola, Cartola, Nelson Sargento among others, with some of whom he had the opportunity of sharing vocals on studio and stage).
Since 2007, after recording his first solo album, Claroescuro, Pedro Moraes has been dedicating fully to promoting his music, with an intense schedule of concerts that has included Europe (England, Germany and Spain), Asia (India - Pedro is the first brazilian artist to have his CD released by an Indian label - and Sri Lanka) and some successful touring around Brazil, with outstanding response from audiences and press.
